Ian J Sarembock, MB, ChB, MD, FCP(SA), FACC, FAHA, FSCAI
Dr. Sarembock, a structural and interventional cardiologist, brings an international outlook and expertise to Cincinnati. He was born and raised in South Africa and received his medical degree and doctorate at the University of Cape Town. After spending two years at Yale University as a Research Associate in the Cardiovascular Division, he and his family moved on to the University of Virginia (UVA), where he was involved in translational and clinical research, taught and practiced medicine. He was Director of the Coronary Care Unit, as well as the Harrison Distinguished Teaching Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the Center for Interventional Cardiology. He helped create and maintain an extraordinary translational research and clinical trials program at UVA, which included original hypothesis-based research as well as being a leading participant nationally in NIH and industry-supported clinical trials. In 2007, he joined the Ohio Heart and Vascular Center in Cincinnati, Ohio and Co-Director of The Heart and Vascular Center at The Christ Hospital. He subsequently served as Executive Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Service Line until 2017. His present focus is on complex coronary and structural interventions, including cutting edge valve and device trials and holds the Harold C Schott Foundation Endowed Chair in Structural Heart.
Among his numerous awards and accolades are the J. Edwin Wood Jr. Cardiovascular Division Attending Teaching Award and the Clinical Excellence Award. He has been regularly included in the Best Doctors in America®, Best Doctors in Cincinnati, and Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
Dr. Sarembock’s research career has spanned everything from basic science to clinical trials. He has authored a wide range of publications in the research and treatment of heart disease. Based on his research, he has consistently published in high-impact journals and has contributed more than 250 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, book chapters, and invited publications in cardiology. In addition, he is a peer reviewer for many of the leading journals in both clinical and investigational cardiovascular medicine.
